Triangles, Stars, Webs

This project was so easy and has been so much fun for these girls, I had to include more photos! Earlier this week, Eliza hammered about 30 nails in two concentric circles into a board. We had to do some more hammering after her first go with the rubberbands, as some of them came loose, but what's not to love about more hammering??
Today she wanted only the black bands, and came up with this beautiful design, which she declared to be a web:
I made Ani's board, not because she couldn't have done it, but in the interest of time (think "but I want to use the board!!!!!"), and the pattern is random and symmetrical, if that makes sense. I started with thinking that there was a "right" way to do this, but I think you can be pretty free-form with it. Today Ani was more interested in overlapping triangles, and was fascinated by the two-triangled star in the middle...
...but eventually even that became a web, here completed with a mess of food and one happy spider!

I love the way these boards look with the elastics! I really want to make a board or two available for my kids!

Oh, I am absolutely doing this. Hammering and pretty designs? And imaginary play? My girls will be ALL over this.
