Bird Nest Fungus, of course

If you think it looks like a little nest with eggs in it, it is probably called something like...
Bird Nest Fungus. Duh.  My friend Kimmy sent me the link to this mushroom website.  You can kind of see in the photo above the baby fungus to the right, covered with a white membrane, the maturing nests in the middle, with the retreating membrane (see the little "eggs"?), and the mature nests to the left.  This shot was as good as my camera could get! You can find all the proper lingo (for instance, they aren't really called "eggs", or "baby fungus") at the website! Thanks Kimmy...

Isn't it? My husband and I were remembering seeing it in Oregon, and I thought it belonged in that fairy land...and then we remembered that we brought home a stick with some on it. and then we realized that i probably packed it when we moved from seattle and it is probably in an unpacked box upstairs...i got a good eye-roll from him on that one...

Weird little things. You found them here in Oregon? (And took them to Ohio?) Where in Oregon? Now I have something new to look for! But they remind me of magnified close-ups of odd tropical skin problems. (Never mind--I didn't mean to suggest ickiness--I'm sure they are really quite magical!)

Kerry - these I found growing on a wet pile of woodchips in a neighbor's driveway. the stick from oregon, well, it is probably tucked away with some lichen, shells, and seed pods...they were mounted on a stick and were grayish, i seem to recall...
and WHAT have you been doing looking at photos of tropical skin problems??????

Nothing! Stop looking at me like that! Can we talk about something else? But I was kind of wondering if you found that stick with these little goobers on a pile of wet woodchips in, you know, our backyard.
