Friday My Town Shoot-Out: Bokeh

Friday My Town Shoot-Out is a sharing of photos and perspectives from communities all over the world.  This week's topic was "bokeh", chosen by T.  All photos, but the last, were taken in and around Athens, OH.

The actual topic of this post, however is "not bokeh", because I just did not get the desired effect.  I think I have finally grocked the essence of bokeh, but I haven't figured out how to manage it on my camera. Yet.  Here is what wikipedia says about bokeh:

In photography, bokeh is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light."

I was focused (haha, as it were) on the blur, and less of the "points of light", which I think might be more where this effect lies.  In any case, I enjoyed what I found, so I'll share it anyway!! Please click on the link above to follow the links to other photographers' blogs and their results of the "bokeh".

These first three I was so enjoying the juxtaposition of close stillness in the foreground and the movement in the background. It was a good metaphor for my everyday (hm...except that stillness is sometimes waaaaaaaay over there instead of this closely in focus.).
I think I was closest on these last two - the quality of light in the blur is different to me.

This last one was taken two weeks ago in Oregon...my first attempt was maybe my closest!!

I am inspired by your photos. Not just on this post, although these were really lovely. I love it that you are learning about photography. It's good to see another homeschooling mama working on learning something herself. :)

Excellent use of bokeh. I especially liked the juxtaposition of stillness and motion in the top photos. It add a new and engaging element to bokeh.

I think you got this better than I did; I just couldn't find the right situation to get those points of light in the background. I love the first two shots, with the blur of little figures in the background: very cool!

well I am throughly impressed. I like them all but will snag only one for my FSO - Bokeh spotlights.

I'm impressed, too! They are beautiful examples of bokeh. Especially the ones with movement in the background.

I think your third one is acually more bokeh - with the points of light in the lower left.

It is interesting some one posted a tree trunk similar to yours. Very bokeh, so bokeh you can't see what is the blurred background.

I have not commented on yout post before, welcome if you are new.

happy easter.
