...and in comes October...

This beautiful October day began with long-johns and slippers, jenga...
and dinosaurs...(this started a conversation about what 3-dimensional means - "mom, why does this dinosaur have three heads in this puzzle?")
and then there was some listening to stories on tape (I found a Rabbit Ears production of the Parables of Jesus, told by Garrison Keiler, and as we've not talked a whole lot about the Bible and stories of Jesus and early Christianity, aside from the sweet Christmas story, it occurred to us that we were omitting some pretty well-known stories that Dan and I grew up with, so here they were, and when they were over Eliza asked, "Is Jesus one of our ancestors?" and Anika chimed in, without a hint of comedy, to say "Or anbrothers?")...

...and then of course we had to get outside...gym class, you know...or is it science?

White Baneberry, or Doll's Eyes
(anyone know what kind of gall this is?)

The day ended with more Jenga, tea all around and some good stories...hello October.

ooh, baneberry is cool! that must be some sort of oak gull....oak trees have a lot of various insects which form galls on them. sorry, that's not very helpful. enjoy the family visit!
