What We Found

Our plans for taking a hike at a nearby park were a bit hindered by the flat tire we acquired on our way home from the woods last night (a very nice state trooper helped us off the highway and to a gas station to pump up enough to get the few more blocks home. Ani slept through the whole thing...) - but we were undeterred in our hope to explore the beautiful spring day we found awaiting us today. Look at what we found: around the corner, along the south-facing brick walls, there were open crocuses...
And warm(ish) ground - the girls had to pull up pants and drop to their knees, not content to merely walk on the grass, they had to feel it too.
We headed, of course, to the garden, to check on Plot 55. We found our friend Martin there...
...who gave an impromptu golf lesson while I dug in the dirt...
...which was warm enough to be dug in...lots of fat juicy worms alive and well in this garden. We'd been wondering if they'd wriggled up yet.
On our way home, after being there long enough for the girls to make friends with a new gardener, help him dig old turnips and plants new peas and beg a few gingerbread cookies off of Martin, we spotted these galls on a fir tree. Galls are so interesting to me...I haven't found an ID on this one, as I'm not positive what kind of tree it was on.

And when we got home - meeting Papa's ride home from a weekend conference in Cleveland - we noticed that there are buds (and doves) in the trees behind the house. It felt like the first day of Spring...
Tomorrow? Tomorrow we learn how to change a tire...

Oooh, I am so glad that you were able to dig in the dirt! We still have a good 5 inches of crusty snow in most places around here, but the birds were singing this morning! And I saw a flock of geese flying north...so spring MUST be soon.
And you can SO change a tire. I mean....to the spare. You are strong! You can do it!
