Ani and I had a whole day to ourselves last Friday; Eliza decided last week that she'd like to go to this fall's session of "farm school", which I had decided not to continue to facilitate. I am really happy for her to have a day that is "hers", with some friends she doesn't often get to hang out with. She came home thrilled - that works for me! Anyway, Anika has had no interest in going again, so it means that she and I have the next 6 fridays to ourselves! We will sometimes share with a friend who comes to us for the day, but otherwise, it is that rare time of one-on-one with my kid.
This past friday, what she wanted to do was to make a doll that she spied in a book I brought home from the library about making Waldorf-style cloth dolls (Kinder Dolls - now called Making Waldorf Dolls.) We spent the morning on this little sweetie, made out of scraps from our fabric pile. Ani did some of the cutting, all of the stuffing, the shaping of the head, and the sewing of the body!
I'm not sure what the face below (on Ani!) is saying, but she was very happy with the face she drew on the doll...
When Eliza got home, she picked up some of the cornhusks from the compost bin and, with some embroidery thread, started fashioning some cornhusk dolls .
Very well. This house can never have too many characters to tell the many stories that are filling our brains...

I love the dolls, and I love your daughters face....how could any one not adore some one so like a cherub?!?
Corn husk dolls are on my list!
And I think that my favorite part about this post is the jammies. :)
Makes this post feel especially warm and cozy.
